ghost-book

Author Dennis J. Mikolay and his book Convergence: When the Living Clash with the Dead” just recently hit the bookshelves!  And wouldn’t ya know it – Chapter 7 is completely dedicated to us – the one and only CPS!  It captures some of our adventures that took place at the historic Hotel Lawrence in downtown Dallas.  Thanks Dennis for putting our tiny ghosty outfit into this big book.

Halloween brought us a nice treat this morning.  CPS made the front page of the Dallas Morning News website!

Dallas-Fort Worth groups on the hunt for paranormal activity

07:33 AM CDT on Friday, October 31, 2008

By SHAWN FLOYD / Special Contributor to The Dallas Morning News

Think you might have a spirit or two hanging around? Several local groups are willing to look into just about any ghostly sighting.

People sometimes call looking for answers to the unexplained. And sometimes these groups decide to satisfy their own curiosity about a place with a bit of history.

“You always get activity in a cemetery – that’s a given,” said Vicki Isaacks, a 10-year investigator of paranormal activity and a member of Metroplex Paranormal Investigations. “When you have a place of high emotional outlet, there is always a chance of paranormal activity. Also, older buildings can have residual hauntings.”

Bart Van Bemmel, lead investigator of the Carrollton Paranormal Society, said renovations also stir up activity.

“Spirits are used to the old building,” he said. “They go through walls because where there may be walls in the new part, there may have been doors in the old one.”

The Dallas Area Paranormal Society, led by Nicholas Nix, specializes in older buildings in the Fort Worth area, such as the Granbury Opera House.

“We didn’t get much in the opera house,” Mr. Nix said. “But we did get some EVPs [electronic voice phenomena] in the building behind it that used to be a hospital administration building and is now the opera’s dressing room.”

The group’s next stop will be Saturday at Miss Molly’s Hotel, which promotes its spirits on its Web site. The group will focus on the cowboy and cattlemen’s rooms as well as a room said to be haunted by a young girl who was a former tenant.

Chad Miller, author of A Ghost Hunter’s Journal, spent the past weekend with his group, DFW Paranormal Research and Investigations of North Texas, chasing down two spirits at Six Flags Over Texas. It’s believed that a young girl named Annie and the park’s founder, Angus G. Wynne, both haunt the four-decade-old amusement park in Arlington. Apparitions have also been reported at the park’s Texas railroad station.

The results are not in yet, but Mr. Miller said the group found “two really awesome EVPs in the candy kitchen.”

A lot of misconceptions exist in the spirit-chasing world. One is that this time of the year, with all of Halloween’s ghoulish ghosts and goblins, is the most popular for ghost hunting. That is not the case, Ms. Isaacks said. Paranormal activity occurs year-round.

The other myth is that spirits are only in cemeteries.

“Many spirits are known to come back to places they loved, like watching a baseball game from the stands,” said Mr. Van Bemmel, who teaches history by day and hunts ghosts at night.

And though nighttime is more popular for spirit-chasing because infrared cameras operate in total darkness – picking up what the naked eye cannot see – ghosts are 24-hour phenomena.

The Metroplex group has checked out several places, including the Sons of Hermann Hall in Dallas and Cobwebs Antique Mall in Plano.

Recently, members converged on the Greater Lewisville Community Theatre, which was built in 1885 and originally housed a dry goods store.

“I’ve never heard anything about ghosts here, but there might be some,” theater board member Bill Thorne said.

In the costume room, the crew detected some activity when they passed an electromagnetic field radiation meter over an old pink ball gown.

“It’s like an energy footprint,” Ms. Isaacks said. “People’s energies get attached to certain things, and we’ve got a lot of people stirring around, which can bring the energy out.”

Psychic Annette Bingham said she felt “the presence of an older lady. Her personality was quiet and very sweet. I believe that she is not haunting the building but does come to visit occasionally.”

Ms. Bingham also sensed some activity in the kitchen. But the group’s gadgets showed nothing definitive.

“The only thing that we captured on the equipment is dust,” Ms. Isaacks said. “That doesn’t mean there isn’t activity. It just means that on that particular night, we weren’t able to capture anything of a paranormal nature.”

Ms. Isaacks is a self-described “skeptical believer.”

“I’ve seen things in photos and heard recordings that I can’t explain, but have never had an experience that would make me absolutely believe,” she said.

But nothing changes a skeptic’s opinion like a little evidence, such as a spirit breathing in your ear, Mr. Van Bemmel said as he talked about investigating the historic Hotel Lawrence in Dallas.

He and his crew also discovered several orbs on their film and an unexplained voice on an audio recording at the hotel.

“For nonbelievers,” Mr. Van Bemmel said, “they start to think differently.”

CPS fans!  We’re back!  After a big hiatus due to some of our members having familes, we are back and taking on all things that go bump in the night!

Here’s what’s been going on:

- Shawn Floyd from the Dallas Morning News contacted us about going out with the CPS Team on an investigation.  Not sure when the interview will hit the newstand or if it will ever see the light of day.  Either way – Ms. Floyd has been fully educated on Ghosts 101!

- The Hotel Lawrence has contacted CPS about leading their 2nd Annual Ghost Hunt on Halloween.  It sure feels nice to be wanted.  We haven’t accepted the offer yet, but we’ll get back to you on that.

- Journalist Dennis Mikolay from the Atlantic Highlands Herald contacted CPS for our ghostly encounters to be included in his upcoming book.  Mikolay has written for TAPS’ (Ghost Hunters from Sci-Fi) Paramagazine and has also interviewed TAPS’s lead investigator Andy Andrews for the Asbury Park Press.  As soon as we know more we’ll be sure to let ya know!

- Another hotel just contacted us to investigate.  You know how we love hotels.  You’ll be the first to know all the juicy details.

Keep checking back for updates!

Our friends in DFW Ghost Hunters www.dfwghosthunters.com have partnered up with the Hotel Lawrence on Halloween to bring you a sweet ghost conference with professionals, vendors, and a ghost hunt!  A raffle will be held to see who gets to stay in room #807!  You can see our reports about this room, as well as updated info about this room on our news page that the Hotel sent us.  DFW Ghost Hunters have asked us to help lead in the ghost hunt to be your gracious tour guides.   We want to thank DFW Ghost Hunters for extending the invite, but sadly we will not be able to participate this year.  WHY you ask?  The ghost hunt doesn’t take place until Midnight.  With some of our members being brand new daddies – we have to hold off for the sake of family at this time (and the fact that it is a school night).  But this won’t last for long.  We have some investigations coming your way.  However, we would like to point out that we were the FIRST ones to bring you and everyone else all the info about the Hotel Lawrence with our spooky tales and EMF readings.  So do know we feel that we must gloat about something.  Call us pioneers if you will.  Ha ha ha.

It’s been way too long since we’ve waved around our trusty EMF’s.  We apologize to our fans out there who keep up with us.  Life happened.  Simple as that.  We’ll be back scouting out dark ominous places of terror in no time.  Just hang tight.  We have TONS of footage that still needs to be uploaded from our last investigation.

In the meantime – The Hotel Lawrence contacted us today.  You guessed it.  MORE PARANORMAL ACTIVITY IS GOING DOWN at the this hot spot!  Here’s the scoop directly from the hotel relations peeps:

 Bart!

Long time, no talk! I just found out that we had someone change rooms because they had such an experience in 807. He had issues getting into his room. He set the alarm and made sure everything was working. During the middle of the night he felt something push down on him and he couldn’t move. When he woke up his alarm clock was unplugged and he knew that he had set the alarm the night before. I just thought that I’d update you on the happenings.  This person was a guest. We have some guests here and the people in sales were making sure that everyone was having a great stay and the guest told them about it. He said that because of it he changed rooms. I guess it freaked him out. Another guest heard the story and is moving rooms so he can be in that room because he loves paranormal stuff.

We investigated room #807 on our last visit.  You can check out the reprt on the site to see what we found.  Sounds like we’ll be going back for round 3…

CPS has been honored with our very first award!  Golly…we feel so honored as ghost hunters.  I think I see a tear in Dave’s eye.   West Michigan Spirit Seekers has bestowed apon us the “Excellent Site Award!”  W.M.S.S. is one of the top paranormal sites around who have seen it all when it comes to all things paranormal.  We just wanted to say thank you for recognizing us!   W.M.S.S.’ link will be added to our site soon!  Sadly, we can’t seem to get the picture of the award to load up here.  We’ll post it in the media section when we update the site.

Dave Juliano, a TAPS family member (think Ghost Hunters on Sci-Fi), has added us to his paranormal site as a link.  SJGR is one of the top paranormal sites out there.  Dave Juliano is an expert on all things ghostly with many books to his credit.  We’ve also purchased some of our equipment from Dave.

One word: Beat.  So tired I can barely manage to type this.  A grueling investigation with LOTS more “hot spots” and lots more ghostly gear.  Expect the full report within the next week or so.  Tons of video footage from video cams, infra red cams, and EVPs to sort through.  As for the editing of the Internet Episode – that might take some time.  Jimmy is the master and he will tell us when the masterpiece is finished.  If you thought the pilot episode was great  – I’m telling ya…wait to you see this.

CPS got a great e-mail yesterday from someone who had the opportunity to stay at the Hotel Lawrence that experienced some paranormal activity.   We thought we’d post it for you!  Is this further proof that something is going on at the historic Hotel Lawrence???  Read for yourself.  Our comments are in bold.

Hello Bart,Jimmy,and David…

Was given your website name by the hotel staff at The Hotel Lawrence. We love their staff.  Have you tasted their cookies?  Five of us stayed in the hotel Sunday night(March 4th). Upon researching, I learned the most paranormal activity occurs on the 10th floor so I requested that floor and specifically asked for room 1009 (my friends stayed in rooms 1003 and 1004). We have released this info about room #1009 to various sites.  You heard it here first, folks.  We broke the news firstFresh meat.  I only wish I had read your investigative report before arriving there. We’re glad you didn’t.  This just goes to show that we’re not crazy. Your report states you recorded activity between 6:15PM and 10:30PM…unfortunately we were out for the evening and did not return to the hotel until midnight. Tisk.  Tisk.  And on a school night? When I first got into my room I put my things on the bed and walked out of the room to go down to 1003 and noticed a cut across one of my fingers that was bleeding but did not have anything in my hands that was sharp. My razor snapped in half when I picked it up to use in the shower and red-orange water came from the tap in the sink when first turned on (perhaps no one has stayed in the room for a while).  We try to shave before all investigationsBut perhaps when we go back we should lather upNote to Dave – go out and get some BICS for the equipment case.  Monday morning was interesting…I went downstairs to breakfast about 9:00AM and when I came back to the room my key card did not work so I went to room 1003 to use their phone to call the front desk who stated they did not do anything. I went down to the desk so they could re-key my cards. Went back upstairs and they still did not work…they never worked again. My friend’s key cards for the other rooms did not work either. Interesting??? This happened to us soon after Bart “heard” the female voice in the 10th floor hallway.  We too had to go back down stairs and get our cards re-keyedAll keys worked fine before this.  Coincidence???  This could be a door lock defect.  Or, it could be energy manifesting itself as an entity.  But I’m sure the front desk assured you that they never have this problem with this door lockThis info was in our posted report.  Odd it happened to you too.  Since we could not get back in the room and my luggage was already out we decided to take some pictures of the outside of room 1009. She snapped some of me trying to get the key card to work and something told me to say to my friend “take a picture of me right now, right this very minute.” In that particular picture is an orb right above my head. None of the other pictures that we had just taken have orbs in them. Interesting???  When Bart walked into room #1009 he said something to the same effect.  Two juicy orbs were found in consequetive pics.  We were wondering when you guys might be going back to thehotel to do your part two of the investigation? We would very much like to book rooms while you are there…we would not get in your way…just observe or assist. Thank you for your time to read this as we areamateur ghost hunters and welcome any opportunity to “tag along”.

Sincerely,
Judy

So – does Judy and her friend’s expedition prove anything?  As you can see in her e-mail – she didn’t read our report on the hotel before she went.  Lots of things she wouldn’t have known about.  Thanks Judy for the great e-mail!  We can’t wait for part two of our investigation!

– CPS

PS: Judy – we’ve sent ya two e-mail replies and yet nothing back…
